It's important to promote your green efforts, and the best way to do that is to get green certification. A number of programs & memberships are available to promote their commitment to social and environmental responsibility, including:
The value of a certification is both how rigorous it is (providing tangible benefits) and its name recognition (providing mostly intangible benefits). The most rigorous certifications include an independent audit. Unfortunately these can be costly and time-consuming, and, except for government-sponsored programs (LEED, Energy Star and USDA), are not generally recognized.
MI Green Team Certification
The focus of the MI Green Team is to provide the public with greener options and assist organizations move in a greener direction, not to "wear a white glove". With that in mind, we have decided to leverage the Green America Seal of Approval, the most widely known green business certification, along with its extensive marketing resources. As we move forward, we will also offer an audited green certification for those wishing to take the next step.
The Green Business League offers an independently-verified green certification - in their opinion the only way to avoid "greenwashing". Check out their position and give us your feedback on this important issue.
